JOB SUMMARY: Position is responsible for providing radiological physics expertise in radiation therapy, diagnostic imaging, and health physics.

Must be able to adhere to the Behavioral Expectations/Customer Service Standards, demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to insure safe operation of the facility, demonstrates compliance with HIPPA policies and procedures and an understanding of the population served.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  2. Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected
  3. Health Information (PHI).
  • Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, proper

reporting, documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment.

  • Supportive of the compliance program set forth by IASIS and demonstrated by:
  • Upholds the Standards of Conduct and Corporate Compliance.
  • Adheres to dealing appropriately and fairly with employee misconduct.
  • Enforces all compliance policies as they pertain to his/her area.
  • Provides and assures timely compliance education as requested by the Regional Compliance & Safety Officer and/or through corporate initiatives.
  1. Perform physics checks and IMRT patient specific QA on all patient calculations and treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy procedures
  2. Perform weekly continuing physics chart checks in a timely manner
  3. Closely coordinate with radiation oncologists, medical dosimetrists and radiation therapists to develop and implement treatment plans for external beam procedures.
  4. Submit appropriate CPT charges for physics services rendered
  5. Assist and oversee treatment planning for special techniques, including SBRT and SRT
  6. Develop and coordinate a plan to assure overall quality physics and patient care delivery
  7. Maintain proper policies and procedures to ensure patient safety for all radiation therapy related services, specifically any special techniques performed, as required by federal/state regulations and accrediting agencies (ie. ACR).
  8. Supervise the production of customized patient blocks and immobilization devices.
  9. Instruct the technical staff on treatment methods and use of special techniques.
  10. Monitor, calibrate, and maintain all radiation therapy equipment, including but not limited to, daily, weekly and monthly quality assurance testing of all radiation therapy equipment (linacs and CTs)
  11. Maintain appropriate records of all QA performed on the equipment and coordinate maintenance and service as necessary.
  12. Oversee and maintain a radiation safety program.
  13. Coordinate, review and maintain records of personnel radiation monitoring.
  14. Assist with and review all upgrades to radiation therapy equipment; perform any necessary QA to ensure patient safety prior to releasing the equipment for use.
  15. Perform special physics consults and dosimetry as requested by the radiation oncologist.
  16. Participate in chart rounds and continuing quality improvement.
  17. Actively participate and cooperate as a team member of the Sightline physics and dosimetry group.
  18. Ensure safe care to patients by adhering to departmental policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
  19. Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency; support department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Demonstrates commitment to the Behavioral Expectations in all interactions and in performing all job duties. Performs duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction, while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the CQI process

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Five or more years of clinical experience.
  • Experience with Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) preferred, 2-5 years ideal.

LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Licensed in Radiation Therapy Physics or Medical Physics as required by federal, state and local laws.
  • Must be Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology or the American College of Medical Physics.
  • Member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

  • Masters or Doctorate in Physics, Health Physics, Radiological Physics, Biophysics or Medical Physics.
