JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Cardiology Non-Invasive, the Stress Lab RN will have a thorough understanding/knowledge of all Stress Lab and Pacemaker Clinic procedures and equipment. Must have a comprehensive working knowledge of Cardiac Arrhythmias and advanced Cardiac Arrhythmias interpretation. The nurse will assess, prep, monitor, record procedural testing data, and initiate follow-up on all patient responses to stress testing. The nurse will coordinate and conduct all Pacemaker Clinic procedures to include: patient enrollment with a follow-up service, and checking / adjusting pacemaker settings using the manufacturers programmer.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Consistently supports the hospitals Spirit of Serving Standards, in line with the Mission, Vision and values of St. Joseph Medical Center.

2. Follows the St. Joseph Medical Center Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI)

3. Promotes a culture of safety for patients and Associates through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment.

4. Interviews patient/family to obtain a comprehensive cardiac assessment and documents all observations and data appropriately.

  1. Preps the patients according to testing guidelines.

  1. Assesses patients condition prior to and during exercise, evaluates and documents patients responses to exercise, and contacts patients physicians as required by procedural outcomes.

  1. Renders professional nursing care including administering medications and starting I. V. lines and intravenous fluids. Performs both complex and routine treatments as prescribed by physicians or as warranted by the testing outcomes. Institutes appropriate Nursing interventions which might be required to stabilize a patients condition / prevent complications, and to achieve progress toward expected patient outcomes.

  1. Will participate in quality improvement activities.

  1. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in Cardiology by attending seminars, conferences, and related CV association meetings.

11. Supportive of the compliance program set forth by SJMC and demonstrated by:

  1. Upholds the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance.
  2. Adheres to and helps to enforce all compliance policies relevant to his/her area.
  3. Assures timely compliance education as requested by the Compliance Officer and/or through corporate initiatives.

12. Sets an example to all staff in their daily activities.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Work Experience:

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing program with three to five years

med/surg nursing experience to include two to three years of Critical Care nursing

License/Registration/Certification:

Current registration with the State of Texas Board of Nurse Examiners

Education & Training:

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing program with three to five years med/surg nursing experience to include two to three years of Critical Care nursing.

Skills:

Cardiovascular nursing experience with knowledge of Cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, Cardiac Arrhythmias, and advanced Cardiac Arrhythmias.
