JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinic Supervisor has administrative and clinical responsibility for the smooth functioning of the Womens Clinic daily operation. As a clinician, the Clinic Supervisor is accountable for the observation, assessment, intervention, evaluation, rehabilitation, or health teachings of a person who is ill, injured, infirm, or experiencing a change in normal health processes; the maintenance of health or prevention of illness; the administration of a medication or treatment as ordered by a physician, the supervision or teaching of nursing; the administration, supervision, and evaluation of nursing practices, policies,

and procedures; the performance of an act delegated by a physician and the development of the nursing care plan.

The Women's Outreach Clinic is a clinic located on the ground floor adjacent to the SJMC Women's building. It has 4 exams rooms, a Neonatal Stress Test room and a Point of Care lab. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.

The Family Birth Center (FBC) comprises 2 floors of the Women's Center. The third floor has twenty-eight (28) beds and a Transition Nursery. The fourth floor has twenty-two (22) beds with the capability to flex up to twenty-eight (28) beds. The fourth floor has the capability of a Transition Nursery.

Takes ownership of a patient safety related issue and openly acknowledges an ongoing problem requiring attention.

Other duties as assigned.

Service

Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph Medical Center.

Upholds the Standards of Conduct and Corporate Compliance. Act as Team Lead; functions as a resource for all support staff. Keeps providers informed of changes in assignments or patient flow that will affect working conditions. Functions as a liaison between Labor & Delivery triage desk.

People

Incorporates the patients physiological, psychological, cultural, developmental and spiritual needs into the plan of care. Consistently follows patient care, and facility guidelines and procedures in performance. Directs support personnel in implementing patients plan of care, provides supervision and guidance, and evaluates effectiveness of the delegated tasks. Collaborates with inter and intra-professional colleagues to ensure quality outcomes.

Monitors internal and external customer service and ensures quality customer service to all; follows SJMC customer service guidelines and protocols (such as AIDET). Receive visitors, both other departmental staff and outside representatives.

Quality

Completes annual education requirements. Maintains competency, as evidenced by completion of competency

validation requirements. Promotes a culture of patient safety which results in the identification and reduction of unsafe practices. Uses nursing process to provide all levels of patient care. Uses professional judgment and critical thinking to prepare, prioritize, and execute the patients plan of care consistent with patient assessment data, physicians treatment plans, and professional standards of care. Implements measures to prevent exposure to infectious pathogens and communicable conditions. Identifies risks and hazards to patients through various risk

assessments, with actions taken to mitigate patient harm. Monitors and records quality control checks on specific medical equipment, office diagnostic tests following established protocol as directed. Ensures the observance of SJMC policies, procedures, and safety practices. Aids in the implementation of systems that improves patient

intake, flow and patient satisfaction and provides feedback to superiors, ensures the efficient processing of patients and smooth patient flow. Reports to management ways in which patient care could be improved.

Directs patient flow. Assists other staff in need of assistance to maintain patient flow.

Ensures work area is stocked with necessary supplies and materials. Coordinates and evaluates daily operations to ensure the delivery of quality patient care and the effective and efficient management of the clinic. Implements downtime procedure are applicable. Facilitate coverage for clinic operations to accommodate staff

member absences. Oversee Environmental Services' efforts and follow up when tasks.

are incomplete. Triages emergency and non-emergency phone calls and walk in patients providing appropriate direction. Documents according to SJMC clinic policy and procedures. Assists providers with treatments and procedures as directed. Performs and documents basic patient history, treatments, and

administered medications appropriately. Administers prescribed medications and treatments as directed by

the provider following SJMC policies and procedures Perform laboratory and diagnostic tests as necessary.

Reviews patients records and other pertinent information, takes

appropriate action.

Cooperates with other health care personnel to coordinate patient care and establish mutual goals.

Notifies patient by telephone or certified mail of any abnormal test results as directed by provider.

Maintains patient confidentiality.

Accurately documents in patient record and reports to the provider any pertinent information regarding patients condition and care. Responds to physician and patient complaints. Assist providers and patients with specialist referrals as needed. Monitor EMR mailbox for provider messages and requested hospital follow-up appointments; reach out to patients via telephone and/or certified mail in order to facilitate scheduling. Obtains vital signs and performs routine functions to prepare patients for examinations or procedures. Facilitate all Rx issues with pharmacies, including obtaining insurance Prior Authorizations, and issues that arise with discharge medication

Rx's (missing DEA numbers, etc.) Facilitate processing FMLA paperwork for postpartum / postsurgical clients -getting provider to complete forms, faxing back to client's employer, keeping client abreast of completion status.

Provide telephone and written outreach to clients that fail to complete appointments.

Support Nexplanon & Mirena ordering program. Assist postpartum mothers with breastfeeding as requested;

provide referrals to The Lactation Foundation as needed. .Other duties as assigned.

Finance

Promotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.

Oversees inventory control and maintains adequate levels of supplies, equipment and instruments in patient care areas; makes arrangements for repairs as necessary. Review supply requests on a periodic basis. Ensures daily charges are entered appropriately and timely. Register patients for appointments; ensure insurance status and

document appropriately. Assist with supply ordering as needed.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
WORK EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of an accredited Nursing School.

Licensed as a Registered Nurse accepted by Texas State Board of Nursing to engage in professional nursing.

Related experience with 2-3 years of OB/Gyn nursing experience.

Technical, clerical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to patient care/area.

Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.

Other certification requirements as defined by the certification policy.

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Knowledge and ability to use computer and software applications (i.e.

Microsoft Word, Publisher, Power Point, and Excel).


EDUCATION & TRAINING:

Experience in a supervisory/management position.

Experience in Acute Care facility

(Spanish/English)- Familiar with ICD-9 coding preferred

American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification is required.
